We continued to look at those words connected with protest and types of protest. We looked at the beginning of the Documentary Tank Man (search: Youtube- Tank Man). We also looked at the work of Greg Mortenson, and his Pennies for Peace initiative and the work that he does in Pakistan and Afghanistan building schools for kids in need (search: Greg Mortenson, Pennies for Peace, and Three Cups of Tea).
We then switched gears to look at those things that are worth protesting and what words can make us feel that way. By looking at an article "pro" dolphin and then "anti " dolphin the next, we get a clearer picture of what is at issue (check out Popcorn Crunch). It is far too easy to just say something is right or wrong without knowing the facts behind the issues (thus a man standing in front of a tank can be seen as being "drunk" or having a "suicidal tendency" rather than being genuinely angry and brave ( ;-) Bianca))
But how can one not be angry and wish to do something when girls going to school are being sprayed with acid... but we always have to be careful to understand who and where the news is coming from. Who wrote something is becoming more and more important- and is also where people can create misinformation and manipulate the viewer... (Wikipedia...? a reliable source?)
The homework was finding a Cause and researching it within your groups of 2/3- please use visuals and make it as exciting as the 2-3 minutes might allow- NEXT CLASS we will be working out the criteria upon which you will be marked- each person/group individually.
