Protest and Causes

Today we looked at the Oka protest- (click on these words to go to the CBC link) to see what a protest can be from beginning to end- this is interesting especially when you look at this compared to Tank Man.  Both groups are standing their ground but with drastically different results.  To save a people and their dignity- to what lengths would you go?

Remember looking at the woman's role in the Oka Crisis- those that surrounded the Mohawk men in order to protect them.  Does a federal government have the right to use their own military against the people that they are supposed to be governing...  who are the police/army there to protect?  When is there a Police State?

We will be looking at the movie "Battle in Seattle"- and this question of government using force against those that should be governed comes into play.  And while the movie is based on real events, it is fictional- checkout this site put together by the director of BiS; http://www.realbattleinseattle.org/
