Could you please write a response (one page, typed, double spaced, 12pt ariel or new times roman font) to the web broadcast that you saw yesterday in class (Deep dish TV- part 3 is what you saw, but all parts are good). You should be looking at the ideas of protest, the effectiveness of protest, and when is it OK for a government to use the police/army on the people that it governs? Is there a voice of the people and should it be heard, or is it best to have a few people (like the WTO) make desicions for the many?
I know I said no homework, but this is to see what your writing capabilities are like.

ReplyDeleteResponse Shutdown in Seattle
This clip is about the people in Seattle rebelling against the WTO organization. The Protesters were having a peaceful protest. Expressing their opinion and how they felt against the WTO. They were there with the intentions of being non-violent. Many, many people came together that day and shut down the WTO. The habitants of Seattle feel that a small group of people can rule the entire world. The WTO have the power to control whatever happens in a country. The WTO want to globalize everything. They decide what happens to the land in the country, human rights, sweatshops and child labor they can control everything and people are getting their rights taken away. The people of Seattle were walking the streets again peacefully when policemen armed with pepper spray, tear gas and began to shoot at them with rubber bullets. So what started out to be a peaceful protest again like in any other situation ended in violence? The police were firing at the innocent protesters. Shooting bombs of teargas, pepper spraying them in the eye and shooting directly at them with rubber bullet. The news were able to make it seem that the protestors were all being very violent against the police officers and that they were vandalizing the city when there were a few kids who decided to vandalize stores. In the end the protestors were trampled over and treated poorly because of their peaceful protest. The WTO is a very powerful group that I believe must be stopped but will it take people to put their life on the line to express themselves and prove their points? I truly hope not.
thank you very much sir for taking in my assignment have a good evening
